Privacy Policy

Who we are

G1 Lyno (“G1 Lyno,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) provides a mobile app and website that help you study for the Ontario G1 knowledge test: practice questions, a full test simulator, road signs flashcards, and progress tracking. This policy applies to our iOS app, our Android app, and our website at g1lyno.com.

All quiz content — questions, choices, and explanations — is static and bundled with the app. There is no AI, no language model, and no server-side inference anywhere in G1 Lyno; nothing you type or answer is ever sent to a third-party AI service.

This policy is written to satisfy the Apple App Store and Google Play disclosure requirements as well as the GDPR, UK GDPR, and CCPA/CPRA.

Data we collect

We collect only what we need to run the app. Specifically:

Account data

  • Anonymous account identifier — the app signs you in anonymously on first launch through Firebase Authentication, with no sign-up required. If you choose to link a Google, Apple, or email account later (to sync progress across devices), we receive the basic profile information (name, email) that provider shares.

Study progress

  • Quiz & simulator results — which questions you’ve answered, whether you got them right, and your simulator run scores, so the app can show your progress and build your Challenge Bank.
  • App settings — your selected language, dark mode preference, and notification opt-in.

Usage & diagnostic data

  • Product analytics — events such as which screens you view and quiz/paywall interactions, collected through PostHog to understand and improve the app.
  • Device & technical data — device/OS type, app version, and crash or error logs.

Payment data

  • Subscription & purchase status — premium purchases are processed entirely by the Apple App Store or Google Play and managed through RevenueCat. We receive your entitlement status (e.g. “premium: active”); we never see or store your card number.

We do not sell your personal data, we do not show ads or use any ad SDK, and we do not use your quiz activity for cross-app advertising tracking.

How we use your data

  • Run the app — track your progress, build your simulator results and Challenge Bank, and sync across your devices if you’ve linked an account.
  • Maintain & improve — fix bugs, monitor performance, and understand which features help you study.
  • Billing — verify and mirror your premium entitlement.
  • Communicate — respond to support requests sent to support@g1lyno.com.

Tracking & advertising

Consistent with Apple’s App Tracking Transparency framework, G1 Lyno does not track you across other companies’ apps and websites, does not share your data with data brokers, and contains no advertising SDK of any kind. The account, progress, and diagnostic data above are linked to your identity only because they belong to your account, and are used solely to operate and improve G1 Lyno.

Legal bases for processing (GDPR / UK GDPR)

  • Contract — to deliver the app and features you use.
  • Legitimate interests — to secure, maintain, and improve the product.
  • Consent — where required, e.g. certain analytics; you can withdraw it at any time.
  • Legal obligation — to comply with applicable law.

How we share data

We share data only with the service providers that help us run G1 Lyno, when required by law, or in a business transfer. We never sell it.

Service providers (sub-processors)

  • Firebase (Google) — anonymous authentication and account linking.
  • Google Firestore — a backup/sync copy of your progress and entitlement status. The app is fully functional offline even if Firestore is unreachable.
  • RevenueCat — subscription and purchase management; the source of truth for your entitlement.
  • PostHog — product analytics (self-hosted instance).
  • Apple App Store / Google Play — process all payments directly.

Each provider is bound by contract to protect your data and use it only to provide their service to us.

Data retention & deletion

Locally on your device, your progress is stored for as long as you keep the app installed; uninstalling the app deletes it. If you’ve linked an account, a backup copy lives in Firestore for as long as your account is active. To delete your account and its associated data, use Settings → Delete account in the app, or email support@g1lyno.com. We delete your personal data within 30 days of a verified request, except where we must retain limited records to meet legal, tax, or fraud-prevention obligations. For step-by-step instructions and exactly what is removed, see Delete your account & data.

Security

Data is encrypted in transit (TLS) and at rest. Access to production systems is restricted and authenticated. No method of transmission or storage is perfectly secure, but we work to protect your information and will notify you and the relevant authorities of a breach as required by law.

Your rights & choices

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:

  • access, correct, or export your personal data;
  • delete your data (“right to be forgotten”);
  • object to or restrict certain processing;
  • withdraw consent at any time; and
  • not be discriminated against for exercising these rights (CCPA/CPRA).

To exercise any right, email support@g1lyno.com. You also have the right to complain to your local data protection authority.

Children’s privacy

G1 Lyno is intended for people preparing for Ontario’s G1 knowledge test, typically 16 and older. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children below the age required to hold a G1 licence in Ontario. If you believe a child has provided us data, contact us and we will delete it.

International data transfers

We may process and store data in countries other than yours, including the United States. Where we transfer personal data out of the EEA or UK, we rely on appropriate safeguards such as the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will update the date above and, where appropriate, notify you in the app. Continued use after changes take effect means you accept the updated policy.
